Shrek, the Musical
2016, Stagecrafters Community Theater, Royal Oak, Michigan. I co-designed & constructed costumes with Doris Boris

Crafted fiberglass hooves, strong and realistic.

hidden thumb holes allowed actor to grasp despite hooves.

tape helmet base supported large ears. Fur suit molded to custom body padding.

Farquad legs were jointed at hip and knee to move realistically.

Velour inner sack and velour sweat pants hid legs, for an effective illusion.

Puppet legs had surprisingly realistic mobility

two sets of puppet legs were built to provide a backup. Both have survived many rental productions and are still in use after almost 10 years!

Dulac fabric was created using blue border print quilting cotton, box pleated with red satin, to create a vivid doll-like ethnic look for dancers, guards and Farquadd.

Grumpy, the dwarf puppet: A body puppet illusion with shoes on the actors hands and fake torso. The actor's body is hidden in a large sack the puppet drags behind him. A walking stick mounted on the boot allowed the actor to animate the puppet hand.

Skinned dragon body and created coordinating singer cape.

In 2024, the Stagecrafters Youth Theater did Shrek Jr. They used many of the costumes saved from the main stage production, years before. I built a new dragon puppet that was large, but light enough for the kids to operate.
